Interesting comparison of Crone and Creatrix with a deep appreciation of both. I had to ponder on this for a minute, but since I'm about to turn 83 in October, I came to accept that I am both. I am finding that I am more of a Creatrix than I was in my "prime," that I am engaged in the creative process at a deeper level. Maybe that's why the three Fates are always pictured as Crones?

Kate, it makes sense that if we pass through a Creatrix phase of development, it would also be present once we were in the Crone phase. And like you, my creative process is much more serious and nuanced than it has ever been -- one of the gifts of age. Thank you for pointing out that the Fates are pictured as Crones. I hadn't considered that. I do love the Fate that is the weaver, the maker of things. May your day be filled with the sweetness of creativity. Big hugs.

Stephanie, thank you! It does make sense that the Creatrix phase would continue into elder life. The Fates are typically pictured as Crones, but not always. Then there is Grandmother Spider, another profound archetype of Creatrix as weaver: Grandmother Spider is also called "Thought Woman" by the Pueblo people of the Southwest. She is a Creatrix deity found among the Navajo, the Lakota, the Zuni, Hopi, and Pueblo peoples, and images of "Spider" are found among prehistoric peoples throughout the South and Midwest. Perhaps the earliest representations of a Spider Woman (who was also associated with the Earth Mother) are found among the Maya.

Stephanie, we are definitely in the same tribe! Creativity speaks to our very soul, our essence. I love that Crone and Creatrix are viewed so positively in your post. As I get older, I get more and more serious about playing with art. And art is part serious business, but it also allows us to play.

And I learned so much about basil! Your knowledge is amazing, and you are an inspiration, my friend. I'm so glad our paths crossed! And thank you so much for the shout-out; I so appreciate it and you!

Makes me grin to know we're sisters of the tribe. I love making things, and basil pie is one of them -- I think just because it's so unique and interesting.

"And art is part serious business, but it also allows us to play." THIS! Both things are true at the same time. Sending love, hugs and goodwill. Now go make something fabulous!

I have 3 pots of exuberant basil about to bloom (after which it gets bitter). It was going into the freezer this week, but it looks like I'll be diverting a batch for Basil Pie! Maybe also add grated cheese to this, bake in a crust, and call it quiche?

When you cook the basil pie, the herbs crisp up a little bit and make a crust. I love the idea of cheese on top. Looks like you could go either direction and either make a quiche or a basil pie. The pie is herb heavy, while quiche tends to be egg and cheese heavy. Let me know how it goes. A great use for this exotic and versatile herb. Big hugs.

Love the sound of that pie! And the notion of creatrix. And did you know that Basil also has anti histamine qualities? Rub it directly onto the skin for itching insect bites.

One of my favourite herbalists and creatixes I've been following on YouTube for a while has just landed on Substack. Her name is Terri and her site is Danu's Irish Herbs. Danu being the old Celtic name for the Earth.

Wow-- I didn't know that about basil and insect bites! Thank you. And thank you for turning me on to Terri at Danu's Irish Herbs. I so appreciate the light you shine and the goodwill you offer. Big hugs.

Yum! I just made a big batch of pesto with my basil, but the your pie sounds wonderful. And thank you for the comparison of Crone and Creatrix. I struggle with the word Crone because it has been so subverted by Western culture (or I should say, by patriarchal Western culture) and your thoughts help me recognize how much I have subconsciously absorbed that bias. Thank you so much for the kind shout-out. I love being part of your tribe!
